Key verse | Romans 5:1
Blessed are those who are justified by faith.
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,"
From Romans chapter 1~4, all Jews and non-Jews were sinners, and they learned to be justified by faith in Jesus Christ. Today in chapter 5 we will learn about the blessings of those who are justified by faith. Verses 5:1-11 tells us about the relationship with God that has been restored based on the justification by faith. It's not over because you believe and become justified. Now that we have a good relationship with God, we must enjoy peace with him. Verses 12-21 tell us that we have moved from the realm of sin, death and Satan to the realm of Jesus Christ. If you only emphasize justification by faith, there is no life after salvation. But now that we have entered the realm of Christ and of life from the realm of sin and Satan, we are talking about how to live. We need to understand these two concepts and understand salvation so that we can live a decent life as a believer. What is the blessing that we are justified through faith?
First, we have peace with God. See verse 1. "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," We were justified through faith in Jesus Christ. The blood of Jesus made us righteous. In Chapter 5, the word "through" appears 16 times. Through Jesus Christ, through him, through his blood, through the death of his Son, through his resurrection, through one man and through one righteous act, and 12 others are about Jesus. By Jesus we had a good relationship with God, the creator. We became the children of God by calling him father. Heavenly Father is different from the father of the world. He is not an authoritarian, sick, incompetent father, but a benevolent, wise, almighty, eternal God.
Before we believed in Jesus, we were the under God's wrath. We shivered with fear of judgment. We could not abuse in calling God's name. In Psalms 107: 10, 11 "Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains, because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High." Those under sin seem to be calm outwardly, but inwardly they are dark, lethargic, and meaningless to live, and full of sufferings and troubles. But Jesus, the Son of God, was condemned and cursed instead of us. Jesus paid for our sins, so the penalty for our sin was gone. God has made a covenant with us again with the love he has given his own son. In Proverbs 16:7 "When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them." And if we trust in God and make him happy, he will bring peace to the enemies. We can share our inner stories, encourage and love each other, help each other, learn from each other and share good things. In peace with God, we can enjoy the abundance of life, freedom, and peace.
See verse 2. "Through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God." This blessing tells about salvation. We, who have been saved, hope and rejoice in the glory of God. The glory of God is the manifestation of God. We live in this world and enjoy God’s presence. We will not only enjoy the grace of salvation in this land, but we will enter heaven in the future to see the glory of God. This is the ultimate hope from the believer (Hebrews 2:10, 1 Peters 5:4).
People live on this world with a lot of hope. But not many people achieve that hope. Even though we achieve the world's hopes, they don't give us very much happiness and joy. After fulfilling that hope in this world, we can fall into vanity. Also, the hope disappears like bubble with death. But hope for heaven is true and eternal hope. This hope is a mountain hope that does not decay, is not dirty, and does not fade (1Peters 1:3). These glorious hopes of believers can be pleasing under any circumstances. To rejoice here is the best way to be happy, boast and proud. This hope will appear when Christ returns.
Second, we are happy in the midst of trouble. See verses 3 and 4. “Not only so but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope ”As we live in this world, we experience tribulation as others do. In particular, believers must go through much tribulation before they enter the kingdom of God. Those who go well suffer from jealousy and envy, and they believe in God and want to live righteously, but they are hated and persecuted because they do not like it. Living with people who love themselves, love money, and enjoy pleasure, they face numerous human conflicts. Severe illness and death of people close to it and the grief that result.
But how can we be happy in tribulation? Because I have been justified by faith in Jesus. We think it is the punishment of my sin when we are in trouble. But the punishment was already received by Jesus on my behalf. So I'm happy. And if I can interpret tribulation, I can be happy. When you know the meaning of the tribulation, you can be calm and accept it. God's comfort makes it possible to overcome tribulation (2 Corinthians 1: 5). We also enjoy being able to overcome our troubles, famines, and dangers with our loved ones (8:37). Job enjoyed knowing himself and knowing God in the midst of suffering.
We can be patient and strong through hardships. Perseverance also produces character. A “character” is a character of dignity, which means a mature personality. My angular parts are cut through the difficulties. Dirty things melt and fall out through afflictions. People deepen in self-discovery and mature through hardships. You get to sympathize with and understand people who are in trouble. A man who only knew himself becomes interested in and loves others' sufferings. Through hardship, the image of Christ is carved into the possession of a mature character. The character ultimately achieves hope. This hope is hope of rebirth. Through the chaos, the world's dirty, decaying, temporary hope is abandoned and the true hope of the kingdom of God is given away.
Third, the love of God is poured out on our hearts by the Holy Spirit. See verse 5. “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy spirit, who has been given to us.” God gives the Holy Spirit as a gift to those who are justified by faith. The Holy Spirit pours out God's love constantly in each person's heart. What is the love of God specifically?
See verse 6. “You see at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” To be weak means to be incapable of living even if we want to live according to God's Word. At that time, we became slaves to sin and lived as it led. Also, no godliness. He knew God but was not glorified or thanked by God. Sinners who sinned according to their nature and were enemies of God. We were not adorable and could not love.
See verses 7,8. “Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Rarely. There is respect for the righteous, and love for the good. A good man is a common sacrifice of love and mercy to others. Those who love him want to give life for him. But no one dies for sinners. Who is crazy to die for a sinner? But Jesus Christ died for a sinner like me. Jesus' love is crazy love that no human can think of. The love of Jesus Christ is the best love that can no longer be expressed
God has died for men like me for He regarded me as worthy and precious. The pain itself is difficult when I suffer and feel the pain, but what is more difficult is that when I suffer, I consider myself as being ignored and abandoned, I think that God does not love me. Then I see myself as a lousy person. However, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, gave up His life for the person like me. God's unfailing love, His love to the end, holds us and triumphs over us. There is no greater love than Jesus' crucifixion.
God valued people like me and died for us When in suffering the pain itself is difficult, but whats even worse is that during harship it makes me feel ignored and considered abandoned, and God does not seem to love me. At that time, I see myself as a terrible being. But Jesus Christ, the Son of God, gave up his life for this. God's unending love, the love that lasts, holds us and overcomes tribulation. There is no greater love than the cross love of Jesus.
See verse 9. “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!.” This means that when Jesus comes again and we stand before the judgment seat of God, we will be saved from our wrath.
though we are saved by believing in Jesus. we commit countless sins until second coming and death. In spite of such sins, the Lord forgives me and declares that I am innocent. Because we are justified by the blood of Jesus Christ, we are not condemned in the last judgment but are convicted of innocence and pass through judgment.
See verses 10,11. “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more having been reconciled shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lod Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reoncililation.”This is about the certainty of salvation. this salvation cannot be taken away in any case. Even if you fall repeatedly during your walk of faith, this salvation wont be taken away from us. In all situation, we can always rejoice of Jesus Christ for bringing peace among us with God.
In this way, there will be people who are saved and live in the field. So verses 12-21 describe salvation from a different angle. It reveals that we have been moved from the realm of sin, Satan, and death to the realm of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God. Because of Adam, sin entered the world, and death caused it. Thus all have sinned, and death has come to all. For example, large oceans, such as the Pacific Ocean, are polluted with dirt. No matter how clean you try to live there, it's no use. See verses 13 and 14. “Sin was in the world before sin, but sin was not considered sin when there was no law. But even those who did not sin, from Adam to Moses, did not sin, such as Adam's transgression. Adam was a model of the coming. Resulted in death and death reigned
Adam is a model of the coming. See verses 15-16. “But this gift is not the same as the transgression; for many have died because of one man's transgression, and the gift of the grace of God, and also the grace of one man Jesus Christ, is overflowing unto many. And this gift is not the same as one sinful; judgment is condemned because of one man; but the gift is justified because of many crimes. . Because of Adam's disobedience, sin came in and all were subject to death, and after the coming of the second Adam, Jesus, life and grace are more powerful than sin and death before. Which is more powerful than Adam's transgression or the gift of Christ? The power of Christ's grace is more powerful than the power of sin.
See verse 17. “For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gifr of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ” Who are the kings? Yes, believers who have overflowed with the gift of grace and righteousness reign. ‘To be king’ means ‘to rule,’ ‘to rule,’
Believers rule over sin, overcome Satan's tricks, and reign in life. They do what is good, do what is right, and worship and praise God. Unleash the gifts God has given you, serve God freely, and love your neighbors. You will try to put on God's power and try and accomplish great things for God. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we carry the Gospel from Seoul to Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, France, England, Germany, the United States, Canada, China, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, etc. to save and cultivate disciples. We are also empowered to have God's rule in all areas of our lives.
See verses 20,21. “The law was brough in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” Through the law we realize that this is sin, and that is sin, but where sin is added, grace is more overflowing. The more you discover how sinful you are before God, the more you will understand greater grace. We are given the power of life and grace to overcome the power of sin and death by the grace of God. Therefore, we must work hard to bring fruit to holiness.
We are at peace with God through Jesus Christ and living by his grace. and also hope and enjoy the glory of God. Even in the midst of trouble. By the Holy Spirit God's love is poured into our hearts. I pray that we will have peace each day by fellowship with God, and that we will be rich in holiness, love, and good fruits, as Christians
