2003 UK UBF MISSION REPORT

 “LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD”

Key verse : Deut 6:5
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your strength.”

We thank and praise God for his faithfulness for our ministry over the past year. Last year, we held on Mark 11:22a, “Have faith in God.” as our key verse. When we held on to this key verse, we experienced the power of faith and overcame difficulties and practical problems. When we had faith in God, we saw the power of God working in the UK mission and in the lives of each of our co-workers. Now, I would like to present a summary of God’s work of UK UBF in 2003.

1.  The ministry of God’s word
In 2003, we mainly studied Luke’s Gospel in 35 lectures. We also had several special lectures which were taken from Exodus, Judges, Jonah, Psalm, Isaiah, Matthew, Mark, John, Romans, 1Corinthians, 2Timothy, and 1Peter. Through the study of Luke’s gospel, we learned from Jesus the importance of faith and prayer in doing God’s work. Missionary Moses Yoon wrote most of the messages while Ian, Paul, and Dr Jacob delivered the messages alternately. Through delivering the messages, in particular, Ian and Paul grew into powerful messengers. Our Sunday Worship Service starts at 2:00 p.m. and finishes at 3:30 p.m..

2.  Bible Seminar and Conference
We held two Bible seminars and three conferences. In the Spring Bible Seminar, Ian and Paul served as speakers and at the Autumn Bible Seminar, Darren and Andrew served as messengers. On our Bible conferences (Easter, Summer, and Autumn), we held them all at Ashburnham Place, East Sussex. There were 50 participants at Easter conference, 70 at the Summer Bible conference, and 62 at the Autumn conference. Guests from Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Hungary, Philippines, USA, and Korea attended these conferences.

Aside from the Bible seminars and conferences, we also held two students’ spiritual retreats. One was “Daniel’s retreat” in February and the other was “Judges’ retreat” in September. Thirteen English students including Ian and Paul participated in these retreats. They were Darren, Andrew, James, Stuart, Jonathan, Matthew, Dave, Simon, Ben, Stanley, and Philippa.

3. 1:1 Bible Study and raising disciples
In the UK, we have had average of 35-40 1:1 Bible studies each week of which 30-35 comes from London, 3-5 from Kingston, and 1-2 from Birmingham UBF.  Among the English leaders, Ian usually has had 5-7 one-to-one each week while Paul 5-6. Most missionaries and others have 1-3 Bible studies each week. Sunday Worship Service attendance has increased from 25-30 to 30-35. At present, there are 26 UBF missionaries in UK, 8 English disciples, and several growing Bible students.

English disciples:

1. Ian K. a PhD student at the Royal College of Art in London. He also works as an artist. Ian has had many international exhibitions over the past year. They were held in New York, London, Milan, Venice, and Tokyo. He studies the Bible with Darren, James, Jonathan, Ben, and Dave.

2. Paul R. works as a lawyer in one of the most famous law firms in the UK. His wife is M. Joanna. God had blessed them last year with a healthy son, Samuel. Paul studies the Bible with Andrew, Stuart, Nick, Ashley, and Steve.

3. Darren H. works as a production manager in a jewellery company in London. He serves as our main Sunday Service presider. He studies the Bible with Simon.

4. Andrew R, has completed his undergraduate study in Linguistics at UCL and is now undergoing his master’s course. He serves as one of our Sunday Service presiders. He studies the Bible with Adam and Leon.

5. James W, is a secondary school teacher. He wants to take up his master’s course and a PhD in order to be a professor shepherd. He is praying for one student to study the Bible with. James will serve as one of our regular Sunday
Service presiders this year.

6. Stuart M, has finished his undergraduate study in History last year at UCL and is now taking up his master’s course. He studies the Bible with Shin.

7. Stanley K, is the father of Ian. During our last Summer Bible conference, he gave a powerful and gracious message. He supports our ministry in several ways. He studies the Bible with Vitalie, Nigel, Bhav, Philip, and Patrick.

8. Louise W, came back to London last September after a year of spiritual training in Chicago. She got a job at UCL and will start in January. We are praying for her to become an excellent one to Bible teacher for female students at UCL.

Bible students:
Jonathan, Dave, Ben (Ian); Nick, Steve (Paul); Andzej, Nicolas, Michael, Dennis (Jacob); Matthew, Yanis (Joshua); Simon (Darren), Adam, Shin (Andrew); Michael M. (Daniel); Jonathan, David, Jeon Yoon (Timothy); Jun (Joseph); Philip, Nigel, Vitalie, Patrick (Stanley); Ian, Kimmy (Rebekah); Joanne, Gemma (Joanna); G.L Sarah (Beth); Emmanuella (Teresa); Sophie, Catherine (Jieun).

4. Fellowship and Fishing Ministry
There are 4 fellowship groups in London UBF (Studd, Wesley, Newton, and Jacob). They are led by Ian, Paul, Joshua, and Jacob respectively. Each fellowship meets once or twice a week to pray and to invite students to study the Bible. We have a testimony sharing meeting only for English students on Saturday. Of all the fellowships, we consider the Saturday testimony meeting as the most important one. It has 8-9 regular attendees. We pray that God may raise more English disciples this year.

5. Choir and cleaning
To establish a good spiritual community, London UBF co-workers meet together on Saturday afternoon to clean the Bible centre followed by choir practice. The choir is led by M. Grace. In this way, we provide a spiritual and loving community and we prepare a spiritual environment for our Sunday Worship Service. In London, we have a small orchestra which is composed of Joanne Yoon, Great Little Sarah Yoon, M. Pauline Jung, M. Maria Seok, and Jung Yoon. The group is led by M. Joanna. We have a great vision that God would raise a world-class spiritual orchestra for UK mission in God’s time.

6. Sunday School/CBF
Last November, we started to have our Sunday School/CBF. Since the Bible centre is too busy on Sundays, we decided to hold our Sunday School/CBF every Saturday at 1:00 –2:00 p.m.. M. Best and M. Pauline work together for this task. We pray God may use our Sunday School and CBF to train our second generation missionaries and raise them as our precious spiritual co-workers in UK in God’s time.

7. World Mission and International Conferences
The year 2003 was the busiest year in the UK mission so far. In this year, we held 7 main spiritual gatherings (3 conferences, 2 Bible seminars, and 2 students’ retreats). In addition, we participated in some international conferences by serving as prayer servants, speakers, and testimony sharers. In June, we sent Paul to USA to attend the American Discipleship Conference. Louise who was then In Chicago also attended this conference. After the conference, M. David Baik invited Paul to go with him to New York to deliver his life testimony and Sunday service message as well. Ian, Paul, and Louise visited New York UBF in the same year.

In August, we sent M. Timothy to attend the 25th year anniversary celebration of Cologne UBF, Germany. In September, Ian went to Japan and Korea to share his life testimony. In September, Joanne and G.L. Sarah Yoon went to Seoul to participate in the Music Concert of the second generation missionaries from other UBF chapters. In early December, Darren went to Seoul and shared his life testimony.

8. International visitors
In 2003, God had also given us the privilege to serve great servants of God from all over the world. We thank God for granting us beautiful spiritual fellowships with them. They encouraged us through their prayers, group Bible studies, messages, and spiritual counselling. Pastor Abraham and M. Sarah Lee of Cologne UBF came in March; M. Kaleb Hong of Heidelberg UBF in June; and Mother Sarah Barry and Dr. Mark Yoon of Chicago together with M. Sarah Lee of Cologne UBF visited us in August. We also had many foreign guests who attended our conferences and served as prayer servants. During the Autumn Bible conference, Dr. William Altobar (Philippines) came to support the conference. We also thank God for the second generation missionaries from Bonn UBF who constantly support our conferences with their wonderful music concerts.

9. New Missionaries
Last year 4 new missionaries came to London. They are M. Luke Hur, M. Teresa Hur, M. Charles Kim, and M. Pauline Jung from Chun chon chapter in Korea. M. Pauline Jung came to London in August. She sacrificially serves the children of some of our missionaries. M. Charles Kim came to UK in November. M. Joseph Kim came back to London after one year of spiritual recharge in Korea. M. Matthew and Best Sumibcay came to London in February 2003.

10. Pioneering work
Kingston UBF:

In August 2002, M. David and M. Samuel Lim’s family went to pioneer Kingston. M. David serves as the Kingston UBF director. He struggles to serve the ministry by preparing the Sunday message, leading group Bible studies, and serving his self-supporting business. M. Rebekah serves Kimmy, a law student from Kingston University with one to one Bible study and she has been growing spiritually. They are praying for 12 disciples in 10 years. M. David set up his self-supporting business this year. We pray God may bless it abundantly to support the pioneering work in Kingston.

Birmingham UBF:
In October 2003, God formally started the pioneering work of Birmingham through M. John and Christine Choi. M. John is a PhD student in Medieval history at Birmingham University. He serves the Sunday Service message and Bible study each week. They pray to raise 12 disciples of Jesus in Birmingham by 2015.

11. New Spiritual direction for 2004
In 2003, God had blessed us abundantly when we held on to his word. Now our biggest struggle is how to keep our faith in God in order to maintain his blessing. So we chose Deut 6:5 as our 2004 key verse, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” We pray to overcome spiritual complacency and work harder in 2004 for God’s glory. In this way we can keep our faith in God and maintain his abundant blessing until we pioneer 100 universities and raise 10,000 excellent Bible teachers in Great Britain by 2025. Above all, we thank God for using M. Moses and Sarah Yoon preciously in the UK pioneering work for the last 10 years. We pray that God may continue to help M. Moses to write powerful Sunday Worship messages and grant him spiritual wisdom and clear direction to serve UK campus mission in the best way.

12. Prayer topics
1. Great Britain to be raised as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.
2. 70 1:1 Bible studies each week and 50 Sunday Worship Service attendees
3. To pioneer 100 universities and raise 10,000 excellent Bible teachers by 2025
4. To raise 12 disciples of Jesus this year
5. Ian, Paul, Darren, Andrew, Stuart, James, Stanley, and Louise to continue
to grow as good disciples of Jesus.
6. M. Moses and Sarah Yoon to be used by God continuously to serve UK
    mission
7.Mother Sarah Barry to have good health, wisdom, and clear direction to
    serve UBF world campus mission

One Word:  To love God with all our hearts
